Start with understanding
Learn what is changing, see where the opportunities may be and decide who needs to be involved.
Welcome to Observer
You may be at the Observer stage if you have started hearing about QR codes powered by GS1 but have not yet decided what they mean for your organisation. You may be following the global move towards scanning GS1-powered two-dimensional barcodes at retail point of sale, responding to questions from customers or colleagues, or simply trying to understand the opportunity. At this stage, you do not need a finished strategy or an implementation project. You need a clear, reliable introduction and a practical way to begin.

A GS1 Digital Link QR Code can retain the trusted product identity used across retail while also connecting the product to online information and services. That could include ingredients, allergens, provenance, instructions, product care, recycling guidance, authenticity information or brand experiences. Over time, the same standards-based approach can also support operational applications involving traceability, batches, dates, recalls, inventory and waste. The code creates the connection, but the value depends on reliable data, suitable systems and clear ownership.
